“All international world health guidelines agree: Breastfeeding should continue and be supported during the COVID-19 epidemic, with appropriate precautions.”

It is vital for you to breastfeed your baby to ensure good immune system development and to KEEP breastfeeding if they or baby become sick.

If you become sick while breastfeeding, here’s what you should do:

 Please follow advice given by the NZ government and practice social distancing and stay at home with your baby.

There is still lactation support available. If you need help with breastfeeding please contact your Midwife or Tamariki Ora/Well Child nurse as a 1st port of call.

If you need further assistance, your LMC or Tamariki Ora nurse can refer you to our Community lactation consultant service.
