The Breast Crawl is a natural instinct where, when placed on the mother’s abdomen right after birth, a newborn can find the breast and begin breastfeeding on their own. If possible, your baby should be placed on you immediately after birth and left undisturbed to begin this process. You can support and adjust things as much as you instinctively feel needed.
If the birth doesn’t allow for this right away, you can replicate the breast crawl in the days after birth—try lying in a warm bath with your alert baby on your tummy and watch nature work. This process helps your baby “map out” how to latch correctly, making future breastfeeding easier.
